THE INSIDE JOB

The Inside Job

I recently revisited some old songs from previous albums that were out of print. After listening again, I found them fun and decided to re-release them with a few favorites in this collection.

The songs cover a variety of themes: artists, poets, lovers, veterans, the homeless, and reflections on love and life’s meaning. The album’s cover, featuring my self-portrait as a dulcimer-playing gangster, has drawn as much attention as the music itself.

Listening to these tracks brought a smile as I remembered the incredible musicians involved, especially Noel Paul Stookey, whose harmony and guitar added a special touch.

This album is filled with my dulcimer and piano playing, capturing a well-lived musical journey. Following my artistic path hasn’t been easy, but, as always, it’s been an inside job.

The Inside Job
I recently rediscovered songs I had recorded on earlier albums that were ‘out of print.’
Upon giving them a fresh ear I found them kind of fun and decided to re-release them
with a few other favorites as part of this collection.

These songs are about artists, poets, painters, a drag queen from Key West, lovers,
veterans, the homeless, and personal contemplations on love and the search for the
meaning of life. The acrylic painting I did of myself as a dulcimer- playing gangster has
gotten about as many comments as the music on the album. All fun stuff.

While listening to my ‘band’ on this album a sly grin appeared on my face. I had
forgotten what a great cast of musicians these talented folks were, with special kudos
to my mentor and friend Noel Paul Stookey who shared a vocal duet and his slinky
guitar playing on The Inside Job. Noel’s instinct for harmony added a light-hearted feel
to “Between the Notes”, and his subtle Peter, Paul & Mary guitar style blended
beautifully with the dulcimer on “Love Is”.

There is a lot of my dulcimer and piano playing pulsing through these songs, creating
imagery of a musical life well-lived. Not without my struggles of course. After all, who
said being an artist was ever easy? Just how I managed to follow the muse and make a
living at it is quite a mystery. But then again, it’s all an inside job.
